Job Description

Position Summary:  The Human Resources (HR) Manager is a business partner and a critical part of the HR function.  This position handles all aspects of HR for a three shift operation including: performance management, leadership coaching, development, wage and salary administration, onboarding and training, placement, environmental, health and safety, benefits and employee services. The HR Manager partners with the management /supervisory team to proactively prevent and resolve employee relations issues. This position will report to the local Plant Manager. This position will also provide HR Management support to the SKF Solution Factory location which is located in Highland Heights, Ohio. 


Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Strategically develops, directs, coordinates, and maintains all policies and practices of the Human Resources Department in accordance with legal, divisional, and corporate guidelines.
  • Actively represent the Human Resources function on the Avon leadership team. 
  • Leads talent acquisition efforts, assuring that properly qualified employees are recruited, hired, placed or promoted for positions. Recruits and assesses talent, performance, skills and abilities to ensure the right talent is in the right position.
  • Prepares and analyzes HR key performance indicators and recommends improvements on items such as manpower, turnover, safety, worker’s compensation costs and claims reductions and other HR areas.
  • Pro-actively manages workers compensation claims and interfaces with Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, third party administrator (TPA) and managed care organization.
  • Leads training programs including tracking, effectiveness and new employee orientation programs.
  • Partner with plant management team on effective employee communications.
  • Administers benefit plans such as 401k, life insurance, medical/dental/Rx and short term disability benefit programs.
  • Complies with governmental wage and hour regulations and administers company wage / salary policy. Reviews wage ranges as needed for internal/external equity and makes recommendations where appropriate.
  • Manages the performance appraisal process for both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Investigates complaints and problems incidental to sound business and management practices such as working conditions, discipline, and harassment complaints in support of harmonious employee relations.
  • Assures compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity regulations. Supervises the preparation and implementation of plant’s Affirmative Action Program. Develops and maintains affirmative action program; may file EEO-1 annually; maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations. 
  • Represents the Company’s concerns in matters pertaining to legal, EEO compliance, AAP compliance, Workers’ Compensation and unemployment actions.
  • Coaches and counsels management on human resource related issues, problems and concerns ensuring consistency and equity.
  • Responsible for the confidential administration of payroll records within the ADP payroll processing system and approval of payroll reports required by accounting standards. Payroll processing is handled by another role however the HR Manager serves as a backup.
  • Plans, organizes and directs Company functions and activities such as summer outing, service award programs, etc. designed to promote and maintain employee morale.
  • Provides direction and support to job design, manpower planning and forecasting.
  • Assures compliance with appropriate governmental laws and regulations such as OSHA, ERISA, FLSA, etc.
  • Directs and maintains various activities designed to promote and maintain a high level of employee morale.
  • Directs and provides coaching to leaders and individual development to assure adequacy of plans and programs to meet plant and divisional needs.
  • Inspires teamwork to maximize business performance and development of people.
  • Develop reputation and operates as a trusted advisor and business partner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive and proactive HR Generalist experience.  
  • Experience must be broad and include: manufacturing experience; overall business acumen, recruitment, training and employment law. 
  • Tactful with strong communications and analytical skills, and be persuasive and influential. 
  • Strong computer skills with current knowledge and utilization of entire suite of Microsoft Office. Experience with payroll software such as ADP preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR beneficial.
